Sam Hill Wins US Open
Islandia , NY – May 31, 2005 The Iron Horse/Mad Catz Team continued it's domination of the US Open of Mountain Biking with an impressive win by defending champion Sam Hill. Sam outpaced Iron Horse/Mad Catz alum Nathan Rennie by 2.4 seconds to take home the big check and carved wooden shield.
With family and friends on hand, New Jersey born, Australian raised team rider Justin Havukainen rode his way to a strong 5 th place podium finish at 5.9 seconds off Sam's winning pace. Junior World Champion Scarlett Hagen placed 3 rd in the womens field, 3.8 seconds off of Sabrina Jonnier's winning time and a scant 0.048 seconds behind 2 nd place finisher Kathy Pruitt.
Now in its third season, US Open of Mountain Biking has quickly become one of the world's premier downhill mountain bike races. Held at Diablo Freeride Park in Vernon , NJ the 2005 US Open drew over 375 competitors from six different countries racing for over $35,000 in cash and prizes. Iron Horse/Mad Catz team riders have won every US Open to date: Bryn Atkinson in 2003 and Sam Hill in 2004 & 2005.
